Hi! I want to have a pair of clown fish, obviously may look into breeding in the future (is not what I want to do now but would be great to have the option there). A lot of breeders and aquarium selling clown fish as a pair which come from same colony (breed from same parents), but if the pair going on breeding in future would that not cause inbreeding or that is not a thing in clown fish? What is ur suggestions? Thanks a lot.

I’m not certain on this but would imagine that you will eventually see some deformities. Why not just get two different clowns from different sources.

How do you know they came from the same pair?

Also even if they came from the same breeder there is a good chance (unless your dealing with a very small fish farm/hobbyist) that they aren’t siblings. Where I work there is usually 5-20 spawns in one growout tank that is pulled from.

Hi thanks for comeback to me, I was looking at our local clownfish breeder, I think they are from the same clutch. However, that is a really good point, the clownfish from fish stores probably will not have that problem. Thanks
