My tank (Nuvo 14g) is nearly cycled but I’m not ready to add fish, will be 2/3 weeks yet, what’s the best way to keep the cycle going?

I’ve cycled using dr Tim’s and Fritz, I’m guessing I need to carry on adding ammonia, the cycle called for 2ppm so do I need to carry on adding 2ppm daily or less? And also is it worth adding the carbon and purigen now or wait for the fish?

Thanks.

I usually dose 1 ppm for the tank to "eat" within 24 hours. Sounds like you are there. Cycles usually take around 30 days to complete. Then do huge water changes (often takes 100% of the volume or more) to get rid of the nitrites, nitrates that are accumulating.

I’ve been cycling for only 4 days., I did use Fritz 9 and my rock had been cycled for a month before adding to the tank.

I’ll double check it has cycled as I’m nervous it’s not been long enough but once I feel it has completed, 1ppm ammonia per day will keep it on track until my custom lid arrives. Thanks.

I dont think you need 1 ppm ammonia per day. You are not trying to increase bacteria at a high level anymore. Once a week should be fine as a maintance dose. Or use a pinch of pellets or flakes once a week.
