I have a fish in an aqua medic fish trap in my display tank. There are holes in the fish trap but considering there isn’t much flow, if any, will it be ok to leave it in there?

I have a Moorish idol in a fish trap currently. I only leave fish in it for acclimation purposes around 24-72 hrs.

What fish is it? You shouldn’t really leave a fish in that small of a space for more than 5-7 days. Also, what size is your tank?

It’s a small yellow tang. Trying to get it accustomed to my purple tang. My purple tang is a bully. My tank is a 180g though

Ya I would say only keep it in the QT box for no more than 7 days. Is the yellow tang eating fine? I would think 180g is enough to allow the two tangs to swim around and not conflict with each other.

For a few days to acclimate (and if the fish isn't cramped in it) it would be a good idea. I have a smaller trap that worked really well for several days for my Pajama Cardinal, but it was way too cramped for my Coral Beauty Dwarf Angel. When in doubt for the size of the fish you can go to the dollar store and get some of these drain baskets with handles. Used them for both my Yellow Tang and Coral Beauty and they worked well:

Cool! Good idea. I may give that a try
