Keeping multiple flame angels together - experiment successful

Lookin good. It definitely something that shouldnt be of any issue for dwarfs so long as all are added at once. I tried with a trio in my 150gal.... one died and the other 2 decimated my coral. So what was once one of my favorite fish for the pop of color is now one I will never have again.

I’ve mixed potters without issue before. Flame are a lot more aggressive. Lemon peel are even worse!

Picked up a trio of small female flames this week. You sure uronema was the problem with yours? Velvet yes, but never have had U with any of my angels.

Positive. It was ground zero for two bad uronema infestations. It got so bad that looked like Jason X found their sides :(

Hard to ID on a red angelfish until it is too late!

You REALLY CAN just add one at a time as long as you add a female.

When I’ve tried it in the past it didn’t work well at all. That said, it was adding one to an incumbent. I tried this probably 6 or 7 times over the years. I’ve kept potters and coral beauty in groups, and had luck mixing groups of 3 or more centropyge.

If your tanks were anything like the one in your video, I can see why two males will have problem. All my tank are set up for small fish with lots of crevices and cave in the rock structure. Also, when I add fish into my DT, they almost always healthy and eating captive food well, and gaining weight. I don't treat my fish or QT them for treatment. That is one of the reason I don't do prophylactic treatment fish. I do isolate them either in my sump or in my QT system, use for QT of corals, anemones and clams, not fish until they eat well and gain weight.
There are many different ways to skin a cat so I am not saying my way is right and your is wrong, or anything remotely in that sense. However, consider having a refugium in your sump to keep new fish there to get them use to captive condition. Perhaps, you can use it as your halfway house. Keep them in there until they function well after their imprisonment in your treatment tank before releasing them to the DT.
I never have problem with adding a female Flame angel to my DT with male or a existing harem in it. I have always keep a harem of Flame angels in all of my DT in the last 18-20 years. Most of my tank are 300+, however I also have a pair in my 65 gal tank.

Out of the 5 flame angels I added to my tank only 1 was abused to death. The others each found a hiding spot and over a span of time stuck up for themselves vs my big boy. Everyone knows hes the king and has a truce. They all do this weird thing where they circle each other and sniff butts then my big boy will like present himself as if the other angels are cleaner wrasses... its pretty weird... I think maybe mating process? Anyone have experience with that?

Go to post #10 from Orion he has a video on mating> I know with mine you can see the spawn with the rest of the fish eating them up.
