I recently bought one of these and really liked them. Now wanting to have a pair or perhaps even a trio. I have read online that they stay in pairs in the wild as well as solo.

Has anyone done that before?

Can you share insights and pics. Thanks.

How big is your tank? Did you get yours from Poma Labs?
I am not sure about their exact social structure but to my knowledge angels of this genus (Chaetodontoplus) prefer to form mated pairs. Your best bet is to start with another small one or if you’ve had yours for a while, start with one that’s smaller so your current one can transition into a male more easily.
The thing to remember about angels (at least most of them) is that they are protogynous hermaphrodites that start life as females, in a pair or harem led by a male (transitioned from a female).

It's a 4ft tank (RS Reefer 350).

No bought from a local LFS. Ive had him for only 4 days so far. He is less than 3in and finding someone smaller is going to be a problem tho.

So it should be a duo and not a trio/harem?

I think you should do a duo in a 4ft tank, maybe trios work in larger / longer tanks but I’d stick to a duo. If you can find one that’s maybe a bit bigger, should give you the best chance of pairing them up.
