So, my tank has been set up for around 3 months now. Unfortunately I have just lost my fish to velvet.
I will be going fallow for for 3-4 months

Question is, how do I keep the tank maturing? should I just add fish food every few days?

thanks

Once a week is fine.
You could "not feed the tank" and then ramp it up a week or 2 before adding fish.

The bacteria should be just fine. Do you have a CuC? They still need to be fed anyway

hi, yes, a small cuc. Just wanting to know if adding a little food is enough to keep the tank cycled as I have corals in

You'll have to feed for the corals anyway.

I would feed maybe a quarter of what you’d normally feed every other day or every two days, and then ramp it up a little bit a week or two before you plan on adding any fish. I’m of the opinion that even without a CuC, you’d still need to ghost feed periodically to keep the biological filtration active and productive, but if you have a CuC they need to be fed.

Ive been reading threads from brandon on here and in some threads saying few years without feeding tank and bacteria still alive aslong as still kept wet as bacteria in the room where tank is gets into tank for the tank bacteria to eat or something like this.tag brandon and im sure he explain much better but if you have cuc then just put few pellets or frozen food in for them and if got bit of algae on rocks then keep lights on for few hours s day if you want them to eat from rocks so your choice

Just in terms of the nitrifiers you are interested in, they do not need to be fed. So far research generally point towards nitrifiers being able to go for months, if not years ammonia-starved. Whether they go dormant, slow down their metabolism, or have some other method to survive, or a mix of it all, is not certain (probably also varies from species to species). Regardless, you are safe to just let it be.

But as others have mentioned. Since you have cuc and corals and stuff, gotta feed them. Just with nitrifiers in particular, nothing to worry about.
