Keeping nems

For the most part, if you have a stable tank (meaning salinity is kept where it needs to be at 1.026) and you have nutrients in the water along with great lighting, nems should be fine. So I would definitely test.

Yes, you should test. My anemones do best when water parameters are optimal for SPS (meaning clean water, low nitrate and phosphate, alk 7-8.5, CA above 400). There were times when I got lazy and didn't and the nems slowly declined. That said, once you get to know your anemones well, you can tell by looking if it's time to do a water test, which typically leads to a water change and adjustment of parameters.

Maturity and proper lighting are the most important imo. My nems are doing just fine in a system where I rarely test at all anymore. I'm sure my nitrate is over 50 somewhere.

Wondering if I have to test for calcium, alk, etc for keeping nems and no Coral. Thanks!
If you keep the tank water clean then there is nothing that the nems might extract from the water that you have to replenish like calcium, Alk, etc. which corals do uptake from the water. Clean water and good spectrum and intensity of lighting doesn't retire a test.

My nems were happy with stable -alk, temp, salinity. So happy I had 14 of them….i have been removing them to keep them from over running the tank

While Alk and Ca is not really used by the anemone, these are part of a good stable reef so I test it and keep it steady at NSW level.
