I have a 30 gallon reef tank with some leathers, ricordeas, and am currently building up my cuc. I live in southern Texas and it gets HOT!!. My tank is located next to a window and while it doesn't get direct sunlight it still gets the warmth that seeps through the curtains. Im aware if chillers for the water but I don't want to add anymore bulky large unsightly things into my tank. The tank stays at around 80-81 degrees Fahrenheit all day and I would like to keep it at around 76-79 degrees would something like insulating sheets work if I placed them between the tank and curtains to cool the tank down and let my heater take control again.

I'm here in DFW and my tank has started hitting 81-82F. I put a small shop fan directed at the sump area to bring the temp down. The fan keeps the tank around 76-78F. If things get worse once we hit full summer weather, I can always place a fan to blow across the top of the DT to keep the temp down. Evaporative cooling is your best option. Just be sure to keep up with the increased evaporation and salt creep.

I second the use of a small fan. I used a clamp on desk fan I found on amazon. I have it in my sump controlled by an APEX but if you have a heater set correctly you wouldn't need to worry about controlling it. If you don't have an auto top off system, be aware that the fan is cooling the tank through evaporation meaning you will need to keep on top of the water level more closely than previously.
