So I am looking into getting another saltwater tank. Specifically the 13.5 fluval evo because I am very familiar with it. My daughter has taken a liking to my current tank she is7 years old. She went on a kick about wanting sea horses. So now in my head I am trying to see if it is something that can actually be done in a 13.5 gallon evo tank to surprise her. I am trying to gather as much info as a possible can from people that actually have them to understand some of the problems and special things they encounter with them. Thanks for any information that people share. I know this might turn out to be not even a viable option but I would like to plan this out eventually..

Money pit. Run Forrest Run. cheaper to buy her a Playstation 5 off ebay fir $1500. Lololololololololol

You'll end up with a Seahorse Cemetery with numerous shoeboxes buried in your back yard and a disappointed 7 yr old

Hahhaah time to break out Finding Nemo and get her a clown fish lol

13 gallons is dwarf territory ... @vlangel @rayjay
...you might wanna have the mods repost this in the seahorse department
Actually rayjay has much more experience with dwarf seahorses. I only had 1 dwarf seahorse that hitchhiked in with my ghost shrimp. I kept her for a month or so and then re-homed her to someone who cultured copepods.

Rayjay has kept dwarfs as pets. It's a rigorous commitment hatching baby brine shrimp, then enriching them. If you have access to copepods that helps a lot. I decided dwarfs were too much commitment for me.

As suggested there are a couple resident experts here on R2R. You may want to check into the Seahorse/Pipefish Forum. I am going to have regular ponies so need a minimum of 35g x 17“ high. I also visit the web site below, has some real articles, Alyssa also very helpful with answers to questions.

and he ain't bullshottin either .... NTM time: I spend 1hr/day cleaning BBS containers, changing hatch water, and enriching ....
I passed on dwarfs because even raising erectus is a pain. Heck if you get a bigger tank and the right setup hit any one of us up, I'm sure you could wrangle a pair of lined seahorses outta someone.... as it is LFS wanna pay pennies for the easy to kill/hard to sell expensive seahorses....you'll actually be insulted at the offer, don't expect to make any $$ as a small time hobbyist

Ha ha, you sound like a person who poured their blood, sweat and tears into their baby seahorse fry, raised them to be 4-6 months old, and spent a lot of $ and resources to do it. I got offered by LFS $5 each. I wasn't sure that my precious treasures were going to homes who understood their needs. I was fortunate enough to find a LFS 2 hours away who were willing to give me $15 each and had a seahorse expert at the store. I only raised one batch, 16 out of 22. After that I passed on all my fry for free to them.

Just make her watch it a few times. The reason I got clowns and still love them so much is because I grew up in a world where Finding Nemo just came out, being a HIT.

I've had dwarf seahorses and have erectus seahorses currently. The Evo isn't a good tank for either of them - too big for dwarfs (not to mention their feeding requirements take a lot of work) and way too small for erectus seahorses. You can have a beautiful nano reef in that tank though!
