Keeping skimmer & chaeto in same compartment

A while back I broke down the refugium section of my sump because I wanted to have a skimmer and there wasn't room. Well, now I've had a GHA outbreak and I'm thinking maybe the chaeto was doing more than I thought. It's too late to add the baffles back because the sump is up and running so could I just leave it like this or will it cause problems? Thanks!

You could use some egg crate as a divider. I could see the cheato getting sucked into the pump.

I thought about that, so I turned my skimmer around so the suction is on the opposite side. It may not stop 100% but it will probably help a lot.

I added chaeto to the Skimmer compartment also. Have not had problem with chaeto going into the skimmer, I pointed the input into the corner like you and it seems to work. My problem is the chaeto overflowing into the baffle moving to the return pump. Any ideas on countering this overflow problem?

Just have to monitor it every couple weeks. I do. And I just pull out the excess it’s going to grow and creep over. Buddy of mine keeps some in display.

One issue with growi ng cheat in the same area as your skimmer would be algae growing in your skimmer. Mine are in desperate areas and the light pill has algae and coraline all over the skimmer. The next build is going to have a way to block the light to the fuge area only.
