Bought a lovely rose tip bta today. It’s moved spot three times already which is fine as I know it’s just finding it’s place. However at one point it was kind of floating so I rushed to turn the wave maker off and it landed. It was on a rock but now settled on the sand next to another rock.

How do I make sure it’s safe over night if it decides to move?. I have a wave maker and a small return pump valve. Do I need to cover them?. Could I keep the wave maker turned off tonight?

I would like cover anything that it can get into like powerheads. To be honest I would recommend looking for a permanent solution like a 3d printed cover. I have used foam before but it's constantly getting clogged so I went with plastic nem guards. I would leave them on 24 7 at least until the nem decides where it wants to be and stays there for a week or so at least. On smaller tanks with nems I would never remove them. Too often a nem just decides to move and end up in the power head. I have had it happen and read of happening to many folks.
Nice looking nem by the way

Turn them off or reduce flow significantly. I would start the nem on the bottom and let it move where it likes. Starting on rocks may take it time to climb down if it doesn’t like that area. Once it finds a place give it some time to make sure it will stay. You may need to keep a pump dialed back if the nem likes a spot in the pumps flow path.

I wouldn't turn off the wavemakers at night since they can help with oxygen. Once its attached it usually won't float around (but it may crawl around) There are anemone proof wavemakers if you are interested.

I’m looking into something long term just want to keep it safe while I do that. It’s now settled on the floor of the tank. I tried to put a new pair of small tights on the wavemaker but it just stopped the flow and spat out what I assume was fibres from the tights. So not sure what to do tonight. There is also a return pump valve that creates movement and oxygen but has a duck bill opening.

I would reduce the flow and turn off any that you dont need. The tank will be ok for a bit till it finds a place. Once it settles you can go from there. But if you can’t watch it I would not leave it as is. This thing can float and will be shredded like nothing.

If you have a craft store near by you may be able to to pick up some plastic 1/4" mesh to cover it with.

Also I typically do not change up my flow to accommodate a new nem. I found that doing that causes it to attach where it is comfy then when the flow goes back to normal they go on the move. I like them to find a spot to attach where they will be happy with the flow that is going to be the norm

Once it settles the mesh is kind of pointless you just need to get past the first couple of days or weeks. Also the mesh needs to be cleaned like 200% more

They move, but all not that fast.
As long as your return is running, that’s all you need.
Letting go would be a problem with wavemakers, but just moving….I’d just watch him.
So, if he’s going to let go again….stop your wavemaker for safety.
We kinda want him to get used to the light and flow and find his spot, then if we maintain that light and flow, he should stay put.

This one moved once to his spot, hasn’t moved in 4 years so I cover nothing.

Nem seems to have found it’s spot. Got the leg rooted under a rock so hopefully will be happy there. Do I need to feed it? And is there anyway to encourage hosting of the clowns?

I disagree with the poster above who stated essentially that the pumps only need covers initially and can be removed. That is bad advice and is not in your or the anenomes best interest.

I would not directly feed it for at least two weeks. Anenomes don't actually need supplemented feeding. They can benefit from small amounts of meaty foods like mysis shrimp but it's not needed. Mine all catch enough out of the water column that I never directly feed them.

Yes I’m currently trying to work that out. I have a budget wavemaker as I already have a return pump any my tank is only 135litres. So finding any 3d printed covers for this model won’t be possible I don’t think. Although the wave maker doesn’t have as much space for the nem to get caught compared to others.

This product is amazing for making your powerheads safe for anenomes.

I’ve just come home to this. Is the nem dying? It has a long line of something it’s expelling.
