High light or low light to keep the pinks and yellows in the Ding Dang Palys?

I would assume high light rev....I don't have those but some that I have, when they are in high light they get the yellows and pinks....Most of those kinds of polyps get that with high light....Maybe Kevin from AC will chime in...

Honestly the Ding Dangs are like any I have ever seen. They are truly awesome! The colors on a full grown polyp is something to behold! I just want to keep those colors!

I've had good luck on both the bottom and the middle of the tank, under 250w MH lighting. Haven't ever tried the top. I do know that Kevin said most of his palys are shallow water. Also, I would say the right hand picture was taken under actinic lighting only JMO.

youll get more of a yellow under lower lighting
turns more green under high lighting

Med to low lighting. High light will fade the colors bringing on darker ones. Just keep them to the side. Pink and other lighter colors seem to do best under the lower lighting, but all said, lots of actinics to keep the colors bright. Give them at least 12 hours actinic and 6-8 hours white (off to the side) or they will darken.

If it is true they are shallow water then high light will pull the colors out, like most palys the high the light you get speckling and colors you don't see under med to low lighting over time... Desert Foxes will do the same thing under low light they lose the white and turn green put them under high light and you get what is on zoaid....I say try med light Rev at first and go up or down from there....Until Keven from Aloha corals chimes in...

I thought Kevin said he keeps them under 20k halides.
I got some from him and started them on the bottom, then moved them to the top of my nano under 70 watt 20k MH but not directly under it. They seemed to be reaching for the light so I just moved them more under the bulb and they are happy.

Here are a picture of my Ding Dangs:

My mother colony is about 7" from the surface. It is under a 175w SE 20K IceCap Bulb/Pendant about 10" from the surface.

My mother colony was collected in very shallow water. At a moon low there are polyps out of the water.

I can only keep the bright colors under high light. As Kevin stated above they are near the surface.
I had some in low light and kind of forgot about them. Over about a 6 week period of time they lost all the nice color that they are known for.

My Ding Dangs have morphed into this . . .

No doubt a result of lower lighting. I've got Kevin sending me a couple new frags, going to try getting them higher up in the tank. I'm going to move a frag of the existing colony higher in the tank and see if the original colors come back, or if it morphs even more. Anybody have any experience with this?

That's a pretty interesting morph Randy. To confirm, high power lights to keep the vibrant colors

wow beautiful colony Kevin.
i have a few polyps of the hawaiian ding dangs and i keep them just a bit lower then halfway in my frag tank (40b) under 2 x 150 MH 20k radiums and they seem to be happy and growing nicely, i got 2 babies in the last month on them, and my other zoas seem to enjoy the same position in the tank.

I keep mine about half way up in my tank, which makes them about 16" from a 250 watt mh Radium bulb with a diy lumenarc reflector and they are awesome looking.
