I have a lot of live rock and can't stir up the crushed coral on the bottom of my tank. So it gets a layer of algea that kind of smothers or inhibits the crushed coral from breathing. I have a sand sifting star that does a great job but he can't get into the nooks and crannies around the rocks. I used to use the poly-ox in light doses to keep it cleared up.

Any alternatives?

Thank you everyone for the advice and a solution. I stopped using Poly-Ox and purchased a fighting conch & a narcissus snail. They have been doing a great job around the bottom of the tank for about a month. I'm calling it a victory!
