Can we use Pro Buffer dKH instead of Tech CB part B? It seems like they do the same thing, raise alkalinity and control ph. Just not sure if they can substitute each other.

They both boost alkalinity, but the alkalinity part of a well-designed two part has some other features that a simple buffer (like baking soda, or the Pro Buffer).

It has other ions in it so that when matched with the other part, it doesn't mess with the relative concentrations of ions such as sodium, chloride, sulfate, potassium, magnesium, etc. Using just the buffer will alter the relative ratios of these.

Also, the two parts of the two part are designed for equal parts dosing, a benefit you loose switching to a simple buffer.

You can make a DIY two part, if cost is the issue.

I'll just stick to the original two part, for some reason I thought the pro buffer would be better to use. Thanks for the info.

Randy, any idea the amount of alkalinity it raises per gallon? I'm trying to raise the alkalinity on natural sea water to get ready for a water change
