Hey everyone, quick question about this cabnella. It’s been in my tank for around 2 months now and has at least tripled in size (when it’s open). The tank is fallow due to a brook outbreak, and i recently added a macro algae which has almost completely died off due to lack of nutrients and bad planning on my part. The day after i added the macro, this coral closed up. It’s been 4 days. Any ideas?

"lack of nutrients" ... what are you feeding your coral?

If my fish were out, I'd still be daily dosing my corals with Red Sea AB+, live phyto, dead phyto, Reef Roids, Zooplankton, plus smattering of this and that other as mood hits me

my bad, by lack of nutrients i mean lack of phosphates and nitrates for the algae. as for the coral, it’s soft corals only so i have been adding zoo plankton as well as live phyto and copepods to prepare for a mandarin. I fos

I've had this one for about 6 or 7 years. Every couple of months it closes up for a few days then opens back up looking bigger and better then it did before. I don't target feed it anything, it's photosynthetic. It gets whatever it catches when I feed my fish. That other leather behind it does the same thing but not as often.

Great to know, thanks. It’s approaching 5 days and getting close to a week... how long before i should get worried?

The coral use the same nutrients. What are your parameters currently?

Mine never closes for more then 4 or 5 days. Leathers can do well in almost any flow or light conditions but have you tried moving it?
