Kenya tree growth

My friend gave me a neon green Kenya tree frag a few weeks ago and it has grown loads but the “growth” part is grey. Is this normal?

I love Kenya Trees! Gonna have a big one in my next tank. Kinda boring compared to their colorful brethren, but I don't care. They are very cool.
