So Im currently running a Ecoxotic Led light fixture over my 20 gallon high tank. It has 25 1 watt LEDs. I'm mostly looking at growing zoas and palys in my tank and I know in the long run my current set up won't help it thrive. So how do you guys think 1 kessil 150w will do on my tank? Will it be enough cover? Thanks ahead of time

The Kessil 150w would be a big improvement. Hung high enough you will have decent coverage and enough PAR for softies. You will need to acclimate because 1 watt LEDs are way weak and inefficient.

Not all LEDs are created equal along with the optics in their fixtures. You cannot compare Fixture Wattages as there is no correlation to light output.

^Great way to put it.

A Kessil 150 is a great fixture, but it a source light fixture, meaning that all of the light only comes from one place so you'll have to play around to get the spread you want. But it is definitely a big improvement. I used to run 2x panoramas on my nano cube, and then swapped them out for a kessil. There was a phenomenal difference, and my corals got colors that they didn't get with the panoramas.

Awesome that's what I'm looking for, do you think one kessil 150w would be enough or should I splurge and try and get a 350?

One more question, which do you prefer sky blue, ocean blue, or deep blue? Thanks

If you can afford it, the 350. At least that lets you upgrade tanks and you get a better spread and you can always dim it. Or, 2x 150s. I'm sure you can find 150s for sale on threads for a cheaper price. Should be around the same price as buying a 350, or even cheaper.

If the 150, definitely the Ocean Blue. The only other option would be the sky, which has a more white-natural look vs the ocean blue. I love the ocean blue tbh, even though it's a bit on the blue (but hey, no problems with seeing my zoas pop more right, lol). Deep blue is pure blue, like actinics. I don't think that would be a good option.

I've got a 150 over my 25-gallon cube, and it's able to grow everything...even SPS. I have the Sky Blue, which is very similar to an HQI 14K. The only thing I'm thinking about doing is maybe supplementing with some T5 actinic to get more color...but then I waffle back to "not." It's really all you need on your tank.

Peace,

Chip

Awesome thanks a lot guys, I went with a 150w Ocean Blue. Ill let you guys know how it works out for me

Sounds like it's already decided, but I've had good long term luck with a 150w on a 28 gallon nanocube with monti's and a pavona.
