Hey LED heads -

Need your thoughts.

I have a Kessil 360WE (<9months old) connected to the Kessil Controller. Love the light but it recently started acting strange. While the lights are programmed to be off, it will get burst of power and the light will quickly flash on and then off again. It typically happens when the ATO shuts off.

I have emailed Kessil about it but they are saying its likely the power source. Its on a surge protector with a Jabaeo and Sicce 1.5. Doesnt seem like a large voltage draw.

Regardless of the draw, this seems to be an arc in the controller. Am I the crazy one here?

possible

I know the 350's and the 150's had issues when on apex controller or on a timer power strip where they would flash like every couple minutes when off.Maybe you can try a higher amp heavy duty power strip to see if that corrects the issue.

Could be. Kessil has asked me to try a disconnecting the controller and trying different power sources.

I'll report back when I've done a bit of troubleshooting.

I still find it odd that this would happen. You would think the light has resistors to block small surges.

Mine would flash on then off when one specific apex outlet went on. Shortly after, my apex EB8 went bad, so I would be willing to bet it's the power source as well.

Sounds VERY similar to what I am seeing. I posted on another central type forum and it sounds like this is fairly common.

I've tried it in a couple different surge protectors/outlets. All with the same result. I think its a combination of the light and the power source. Its understandable that a full circuit would have an impact on the units but still seems very odd to me that the light would flash - I can't help but think its a wiring flaw.

Thanks for the responses.

So I have narrowed it down to the controller. The light is fine and doesn't have issue when the controller is disconnected.

Still convinced it's an arc in the controller wiring though.

It's probably because it's hooked to a triac circuit instead of a mechanical relay circuit. My leds do the same thing with my reefkeeper. Only way to fix this is to either move it to a mechanical port 1 and 4 on a reefkeeper or add a surge protector to the outlet the led is on.

You could check use a multimeter to check for stray voltage when your ato turns on. Maybe you would read a quick spike when it does come on?

This is a known issue on controllers using triacs and having low current devices plugged into them. Same reason you shouldn't plug an ato pump into a triac controlled outlet.

I had an issue recently with the kessil not dialing in from the controller. It seem like a lock up. I just disconnected everything even the audio jack cable and reseated everything. Now works fine. I think the problem for me was that I kept unplugging the cable connector to manually tune the lights for night time display.

I had this issue with mine on my apex. Everytime my ato would kick on or off lights would flash. What I found was that I need to put the kessils on a the plug that has the solinoid on it. And actually bought a eb4 since all 4 of them are that way. Issues stopped.
