Kessil a350w to ATI T5 acclimation

Im going from a Kessil a350w at 100% on a tank that is 24x24x14. The new light is a 6 bulb 24" ati powermodule.How should I acclimate my coral? How high from the surface of the water? Duration?


I have the t5 up and running about 10 inches from the water now and have it set for 10 hours for dawn/dusk and 6 hours all lights. Almost everything in there is SPS btw.

I am an LED Person. we mean you no harm. My people are a proud people. Perhaps T5's are better... I suppose that's why everyone and their mother is making the switch from LEDs to T5's which are at the forefront of technology. Obviously T5's are the future of reef keeping what with that beautiful shimmer, energy savings, as well as being so much cooler to run and who doesn't love the beautiful ritual of replacing bulbs? I am extraordinarily wealthy and bulbs are wonderful investments.
I'm just playin' lol nah T5s obviously work. It's a decision we all must make. We LED People didn't want you anyways.

Sorry to burst your bubble but that's bad advice. You may have "R2R Guide" on your profile but I regularly see you giving pretty poor and inaccurate advice. Please don't feel like you have to be helpful on every single post, especially when you don't know what you're talking about. Saying a blanket statement like that doesn't even make sense because it depends on the amount of LEDs or T5's being used.

That LED light you have is much more point-source that T5 lighting. T5 is really a different beast because it is not point-source, it actually delivers strong lighting from the top down as well as from the sides, due to the reflectors and actual spread of the light bulbs. This means that your corals were used to direct top-down lighting. When changing to T5 there are huge implications because your corals are going to be getting significantly more light from the sides. In addition, while the corals in the center of your tank were under strong direct LED light, the corals on the outer edges were getting 30-60% less PAR, that will completely change with T5, all your corals will receive similar amount of light.

I would carefully acclimate with the fixture raised at lease 24" above and no more than 5-6 hour light schedule with maybe 1-2 hours of peak (all lights on).

A good rule of thumb is to always start at a acceptable height which you feel comfortable with I usually go with about 20" and lower your photo period a little. Slowly lower you lights within a month or 2 just to be safe (every week or so lower a little) this is just the way I do it and it works for me.

I am switching because I have never used t5 lighting and wasn't that exited about the Kessil anymore. I had much better growth with my radiums back a few years ago. T5 tanks have always been intriguing for some reason.
