hello,
I have 2 kessil a360 E tuna blue lights over a 30g soft and LPS frag tank (IM 20). I was wondering what the recommended light settings would be. it has been running for over a year but still has a hair algae problem despite low nutrients and regular maintenance so I think my settings and photo period are off. I would like to use a light sensor to get the par just right but they are expensive and I don't want to do a rental program. what are your recommendations?
thank you
-Ged

wow that is a lot of light for a 20g or is it a 30g, I’m guessing that is a typo ;)

I would have just one of those lights on that tank, maybe start at 20% and go from there.

Here is the tank

Thanks for the reply, but no I have 2 on it as I Had an extra and thought it would help with coverage. Could I have 2 and set them to 10% each?

yes, that works but to give you an idea, the Kessil A80 is only 15w and is good for a mixed reef with sps, your light is 90w, so you need to start low and work up.

yeah its a lot of power I used them on a 150 mixed reef but I downsized. I had them at about 5% on a 10g before it looked pretty funny. I think I will set them to 10% each with a 10 hour photo period as all the coral are acclimated to higher light. I'm going to check my current settings now.

wow, I should have checked that before... 2 a360s with 70% max with 11.5 photo period on a 2g soft tank. what's amazing is the coral have actually been pretty happy and my acan colony has doubled in size. should I ramp it down slowly?

I personally would, remember you can have the corals at different levels in the tank, for those that prefer more light.

ok ill bring it down to 10% over about a month; 5% a day. and maybe raise up my larger frag rack with some of the more light intensive corals. thanks for your help.

if you had 2 Kessil on 70% you may not have to go as low as 10%, just see what you think as you lower them.

I wouldn't run down to 10% - drop down to maybe 50% and see how everything responds. Major changes should take place over months so you don't tick the coral off!

I agree the op was going down over a month, not straight to 10% on both Kessils. I suspect he will stop before getting to 10%, my suggestion of 20% was based on working up to a suitable level but seeing as he is starting from 70% the corals will probably appreciate the higher end.
