I am picking up a kessil A360we for a temp tank and was wondering if I need a controller for this light? Can I just use the top controls and put it on a timer or would that not be ideal. Do I have to get the controller? I have the ap700 over my main tank which has built in wifi and their own app so controlling and setting up those lights isn't an issue.
Thanks.

Technically you don't need one, but I'd never go back to basics with mine. If you have the opportunity to buy the spectral controller, or a compatible module I'd suggest it.

If you already own a kessil and have mastered it, this might not be so difficult because you know how deceptively powerful they are. [emoji6]

If I did wanna just do the basics how would I go about doing it. I understand the 2 knobs on top but for on off would I just use a timer for that? I'm sure if I end up using it long term I'll get the controller but for the short term...

The 160 over the planted tank is on a timer and I've managed to understand the intensity needs via the dial. Corals on the other hand are more sensitive so be careful with the intensity because it'll zap the crap out of them.

Plug it up to a timer and you'll love it :)
Ran the a350w for two years and you couldn't plug it into any controller. It did a great job.

I would certainly get one. It's really the only way to really know what percentage of blue and intensity you're at. That way you can adjust more precisely and create a schedule for the day. That said, you don't NEED one, but I could not control mine happily without it- would have been a guessing game especially for acclimation.
