Hello folks! I’m fairly new to this exciting hobby. But I am a very quick learner. I have a standard size 75 gallon tank with 2 Kessil a360WE LED lights and the Kessil spectral controller.

I am looking for some guidance or advice for a starting lighting schedule and color/intensity for a mixed reed tank. I’ve given Kessil a call and asked what recommendations they have for their product and this is what they gave me:

Our recommendation is for the light to be placed 8"-12" from the water line and running a 10-hour photoperiod.

**Feel free to adjust the time based on your preferences**

Time Color Intensity
8:00 0% 10%
10:00 10% 25%
12:00 30% 45%
14:00 55% 45%
16:00 30% 30%
18:00 0% 0%

Can the experienced reefers please comment and tell me heir experiences. Do’s and dont’s. Thank you in advance!

I think you’ll want one more kessil to be honest. I have 6 kessil sps on my 6 ft 180. Color and intensity seem reasonable, but as mentioned, you’ll likely adjust the times.

I would actually place them a little closer to the water. 6.5 to 7" off the waters surface to the very bottom of the light. As far as your schedule, for a mixed reef I would up the intensity a bit,
Here's what I would run
8:00 0% 10%
10:00 10% 30%
12:00 50% 70%
14:00 50% 70%
16:00 25% 30%
18:00 0% 0%
Based off my experience, on my 40 breeder which is almost the same footprint except a foot shorter length wise and just a tad shorter height wise, 70% gave me the best par for a mixed reef. Being that yours is a but bigger, you may be able to turn them up higher than that. What I'd do is start out low, and slowly increase your intensity over several weeks until you find your sweet spot. Start out low, somewhere around 35 to 40% and up the intensity by 5% a week. If you start to notice your corals getting upset after an adjustment, turn it down by 10% until they improve, then up it by 5% and if they're happy there, that's you're sweet spot for intensity. For color, it literally does not matter. Kessil has created a light that no matter what color you choose whether its 0% or 100% the spectrum output is optimized for the photosynthesis of corals. It's what kessil refers to as their "kessil logic" some have reported increased algae growth with levels over 50% color. And as long as the sps corals are cent er red near the top, two for a mixed reef should be ok.

Should I invest in a PAR meter? Is 10 hours of lighting suffice? Should I increase/decrease that amount?

10 hours is good that's what I ran my tank at and as far as a par meter you can pick up the seneye for a 199 bucks and it works pretty good and what I use to measure my lights.

Good info, as I have been wondering the same thing, but i'm running 1 360w on a IM 38mini. I think I will duplicate the schedule above and monitor the results

Depending on the rock height and the particular coral I would run them at 100% power and only adjust if I noticed the start of bleaching.

For height I would just keep them at the level where the light almost spill outside of the tank. Sometimes people run LEDs too low and you don't get the light reflecting off the glass internally, that reflection contributes considerably to filling in shadows.

How was your growth with the schedule

I run my a360we at 60 color and 100 intensity on my 65, for the high part of my cycle.

I am running AquaticLife Hybrid with 2 Kessil 360x & 4 T5 393 bulbs. Running the Kessil at 100% intensity and T5 for 4 hours. Ramp up and down for a total of 12 hours. The ramp up an down is mostly blues with the Kessil's no T5. Attached is par layout I did a month ago. Within the pic is the Kessil's settings I use. Hybrid is 6 inches off the water. Hope this gives you idea. Pic was when first set the tank up

This is 5 kessils over a 6’ tank. They’re 8” above the water. 100% light gets about 400 par at the tops of my sps heads and about 200 on the sand.
