Hey so I'm only a few months into the aquarium world and just joined this page, I need some help lol! I have a 40b with hob emperor 400, and hob protein skimmer, wave maker, and heater. I currently have a pair of Black saddleback clowns, pair of davinci clowns, and a flame angel, and 2 polyp colonies. Next I want anemone but I'm waiting until my tank is established. I currently have a 36" 2-T5HO fixture but I want to go with LED's I'm thinking something like a Kessil a360WE W/ controller, or a Radion XR30W G3??? Thoughts, suggestions, feedback?? Im also open to other fixtures but I need something programmable, I'm only trying to spend around $550 Please help me.

Welcome to R2R! I would recommend the XR30 Pro. The Kessil is nice but the par rating on it is no where near the XR30. The light spread on the XR30 is also going to be much better and controllability is much better. With the G4s coming out, there are plenty of deals to be had within your budget, BRS and MD have new ones for $599 and some folks on the forum have them for sale even less. JMO
Thank you!! So you think the light spread and everything will be much better with the g3? With the 40b i wouldn't need the G4? Sorry I'm just trying to make sure I'm making the right purchase for my tank!! And would I need a computer to set up the light or can I just use an iPad, hence My computer is packed away in my closet

No problem, you can put wide angle, 120, on the light if the spread isn't what you want. You would need a computer to get it setup or you can purchase a ReefLink that gives you wireless access to program your light. You can get them for @$90, I actually have one I'm selling now. With the ReefLink you can use your phone to make changes as well. I don't see an advantage to the G4, other than a couple more LEDs and the new lenses. I have a G3 Pro on my 36" tank and I get pretty good spread down to the sand bed. Go on line and compare the different lights, their spread, lenses and PAR values and determine what suites your budget and needs. JME

Check out SB reeflights. It's what we decided to go with. They offer several programmable models. The wifi comes with an app for your phone and 48 set points on 3 different channels. The white. The blue and the moon light. So you can make a totally smooth easy ramp. And there cheap! Far more affordable than lights with less capabilities that cost 5 times as much.
Yea, I'll have to check them out for my 220g build. I ended up going with the Radion g4 for now and its working well so far. I'm still trying to learn as much as I can with the 40 gallon so I can upgrade to the 240 within the next year!

I've had both, and Radion wins for me. I had a Kessil A360WE and it literally lasted for a week past the warranty and wouldn't light up again. Tried a different power pack, no luck.
Not going to spend another $400 on a light that doesn't last more than 2 years. I realize this is probably not a common experience, but it just frustrated me.
