Hello

I’m in the process of getting a 6ft x 2ft x 2.5ft built.

according to Kessil’s website, 2no A360x is enough coverage for a mixed reef?
Two of these little pendants don’t feel enough for a 6ft tank. Having said that, two of them are already way over budget and I’m struggling to afford them.

would you recommend two on a 6ft or do you have any other recommendations? Ideally much cheaper!

I run Kessils (360WE) along with T-5s and I don't see any way that 2 fixtures are going to cover a tank that size. The 360X may have a little better spread, but still not enough for a 6 foot tank in my opinion.
A T-5 fixture would be one lower cost option. As far as lower cost LEDs, I don't have any personal experience but something like reefbreeders or sbreeflights might be an option worth looking at.

No - you will need at least three.
My advice is to get the t5 hybrid fixture and one kessil. Use the kessil for ramp up/down/lunar and the t5's will be your main lights until you can swing more kessils.
If this is going to be your first tank, or starting with dry rock, you shouldnt be looking to add SPS for 6+ months anyways so you dont necessarily need the par for a while.

Marineandreef.com will give you 5% off kessils with code "discount5"

For 6 ft i would go 4 kessils, or better yet 3 kessils and T5 combo. Make sure to get a PAR meter to make sure. This is my 4ft tank with 4 kessils at just 70% intensity. Its a new tank so im tweaking some stuff.

Kessil actually recommends 1 per 24", which would mean that you would need 3. With that said, I have a 6ft tank and run 4, I do not think 3 would be enough without supplemental lighting, and 2 definitely not.

A T5 hybrid light as someone else mentioned is probably a good option. With the T5's you could keep some basic softies and a few lps, and then add LED fixtures to it as you can.

I have 5 360x on a 5x2 tank. I also have 4 T5s.

2 will look very dim. If you are unable to use five or six on this tank then I think you may want to consider selling the ones you already have and determining a different lighting path. Just my opinion.

3 Kessil 360x were enough to light my 5’ tank but I wasn’t getting the par I wanted. A lot of it depends on what type of coral you want to keep.

my gut tells me three 360xs on a 6 foot tank would still have shadows

For 6 foot 30" deep you are probably looking at more like 5. That being said you can add t5's and black boxes to fill in the gaps at a more affordable cost while keeping the kessil shimmer. You could try running them at 100% much higher then recommended but not sure how well that would work out.

I have a 60x18x24 tank, I run 3 kessils (a350,a360we,a360x). Ideally I'd like to add a 4th but my tank is also packed with corals, in a new tank you can get away with less light. In addition to the kessils I run 2 black boxes to help fill in the gaps, plus 2 T5's. I'm debating adding either a 3rd black box or a 4th kessil. Obviously the black box would be much cheaper. You can see the far right of my tank is pretty dark.

You can also save some money and buy 3
360we that will get you started. And you can add another one in a year. I also had a 125 gallon 6ft 125 gallon tank and I started with 3 x 360we. The 360we will give you the same par as the 360x

Kessil claims the A360X puts out 25% MORE in light output. So now way are they the same par.

The A360X actually tests out to put out LESS par then A360WE - see BRS video. However they are difficult to compare. You are supposed to hang the A360X lower which is part of the reason why I said I'm not sure if it will work hanging them higher at 100%.

They are I have both and I tested with a par meter. Same par even BRS said in their video same par. Now the 360x is a wider spread so it covers more than the 360we
But par is the same. I had them running the program from kessil controller.

They are both 90 watt lights. The 360x is a nicer color and it can be dimmed really low to run a moon light. The 360X is also slimmer

I think they were using the preset spectrum though, which is garbage.

I had them in the same mount and got the same numbers. The only real difference is the colors and the violet Channel

They are both 90 watts, but when wattage is used more efficiently (which kessil claims with the A360X) the end result is more light. Being that the X is a wider angle lens, yes directly under it you may get the same par, but I would bet the overall footprint, is getting more par. Not just a shotgun straight beam under the light. I would bet if you put the narrow lens they sell as a add on, which makes it more comparable to the we, it would without a doubt have more par.

Just start with the AquaticLife hybrid fixture. You can add kessils one at a time as your budget allows. The T5’s will provide the foundation and be all you need to start out. You can get the 61” fixture right now for $489 as opposed to one 360x at $449. Of course you would have to buy 4 T5 bulbs but you still come out way ahead as opposed to having to buy 4 360x up front to light that tank adequately.

If don’t want to spend a lot of money the best cheap led lights are 3 ocean rivive
$189 each light $600 and your tank has lights. The ocean revive grow corals no problem. A lot of you tubers use that light with a lot of success.
