Currently running my light with a slow sunrise and increasing intensity by 20% up every 2 hours to 60% at its peak then decreasing by 20% every 2 hours until it gets to 0. I pretty much just took the preset tuna blue and changed the times/duration of each cycle.

Anyone use the same light and want to share their light settings?
Would be greatly appreciated!

Here is my program. I ran the "acclimate " preset when I first installed them in late November, and this is what I i run now..

I have 2 of these lights on my 55g mixed reef. The corals are ABSOLUTELY thriving since I installed these lights!!

What are you keeping? SPS and LPS?

I have a mix of softies, LPS and a couple new SPS that I am trying out again.

I lost a couple frags earlier, I believe because I had A: not enough flow, and B: insufficient light.

The new SPS frags seem to be responding well in my tank. The LPS and softies, are running amok!!!

Nice I’m planning on mostly stocking this tank with some torches hammers and frogs. Currently also have 3 RBTA waiting to be hosted to my mated clowns.

how tall is your tank?

Substrate to light is 24"

Tank is a standard 55g. 48 x 14 x 21.

Edit: Surface of water to light is 6.5"
That’s cool, I have a hexagon shaped tank so mine is rather tall than wide, 35” tall

So, your tank is pretty much twice as deep as mine... Not really sure how that will work out with the settings I use. I would suggest getting hold of a par meter and checking your light levels on your tank. That really is the best way to decide both, what you can realistically keep, and where to place them.

6.5 inches seems pretty close. Raise it up and crank the intensity to max! You get great spread with more even par. I have an ap9x which is similar and my fixture is 14 inches off the water in a 24 inch deep tank. I get 150 par on the bottom and 400 to 500 in the middle top.

ETA - Get your hands on a par meter to set it up!
Edited again to say I missed where you stated you have a 35 inch deep tank with mostly lps and softies. You could still raise a bit to get better spread while increasing the intensity IMHO!

Sigh… I was hoping to get around that cause I don’t wanna spend a couple hundred bucks on something I’ll use once and then it’ll catch dust in the closet

OP has an 85g Hex@ 35" deep. No need to raise light. In this case, closer is better. Spread is irrelevant! The footprint of this tank is at best 24"-30"

If you refer to MY tank, I respectfully disagree. My tank is absolutely thriving under the settings I posted above.

I totally understand. I have a Seneye which has a built-in par meter. Spent a couple hundred on it and it sits in the closet.. ugghhh...

there are options I understand for rentals.. maybe look into that? Check your LFS?

I fully agree that it sucks to buy something you are only going to use once. I see posts over and over of people saying you have to get a par meter or the stars will fall and the moon will spin off into space.... I find this absurd. What did we do before par meters? We placed a piece, watched its reaction and adjusted... With your tank, you are going to have a very difficult time with most of the more demanding corals. I just personally don't see a way to give everything the light and flow it will need in such a small footprint tank. It is like taking my tank and standing it on end.

Now, that said.. I read another thread from you that said you are looking to upgrade to a 120g. My advice, that 85 hex you have would be a MAGNIFICENT seahorse habitat!! They love vertical space and do not require lighting that corals do.

Keep your Kessils for the 120 and then start thinking corals.

I definitely thought about this with the 85gal, I pictured a tank with seahorses and perhaps some pipefish.
not sure how hard it is to set up a jellyfish tank as well but the idea of it it’s really exciting

I think I just saw a forum where people were saying BRS rents the par meter so I’ll just get one from them and return it after I’m done. Thanks for the advice!

With your lighting set up like this, has the color of the coral dimmed?
