Hello Everyone,

I am new to the hobby. I have a 180-gallon tank 72"x24"24" with a center glass brace. My initial intentions were to have softies and LPS in my tank. But I would like to go SPS down the road at the top of the tank. The tank is about 4 months old. I had a defective A360x that needed to be replaced. I asked Kessil about the par output on these lights and they claim they don't go by par but they go by wavelengths. At 95% I am only getting par around 180 at the top of the tank and about 90 par at the bottom. They suggested that I add (2) a500's. would this be overkill or would getting 2 more A360x to be more than enough? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated ....

Warmest Regards

if you truly want sps and lots of par...add two more 360s, and run them wide open. great lights for sure, but you need lots of sps, or a totally different lights. Im a huge fan of metal halide 20k lights, with led accents. tons of par!! But im an acro junkie....

i am looking for 250 par at the top and and 120 at the bottom of the tank. I guess what i am asking is if the a500's would be to much

i would say no. not to much. if they end up being super bright, you can always turn them down some. ive ran the 360s before, and the par numbers never were super high. However they did grow beautiful corals

Even acros?

I’m in a similar position as the OP. Two a360x lights on a 36” tank and getting suuuper low PARs running 50% intensity. I am currently working on increasing. I’ll be switching to a 47” tank in a couple of months so I’m wondering if I could go with my a360s and maybe add an a500 in between them or maybe even put a radion between them

I have 4 360s which I got used on my 100 gallon. I’ve turned them all down to about 30%. I get about 320 at the top 1/4 of the tank and 80 at the bottom. It’s nice to have the four because you don’t get a spot light and it spreads out the light nicely. Ive heard a lot of complaints about reliability but I have not had problems. Very happy with them.

I think the reason I also like them is it doesn’t allow you to mess around with the spectrum. As a fiddler, this doesn’t allow me to fiddle with something that is this important. It does allow me to adjust through my apex in a gentle way!

A few will tell you to look at the reefi Uno 2.0 model. Price per price more per dollar spent.

Benmed, How high above the surface do you have them? Mine are about 8-9” and still barely getting 120 at the top
I can't get close to 320 par with a360s at the top. I purchased (2) a500s and hooking them up today. I will let you know the out put

I would stay with the 360x's. My tank has the same dimensions as yours and I have 4 360x's and 4 360's. I have 2 360's on each end (had them from tanks I took down) and the 4 360x's the middle lights. The 4 360x's would easily light the tank fine on there own but for high light loving corals I would add more. I would not add 500'xs as your tank like mine is not that deep. Adding more Kessils will help with corals that demand strong lights and also eliminates any shadowing issues.

Layout was suggested by Kessil...lets see what happens
