Mini will be better than A80 in terms of power, and will matter if you are growing SPS. I am not using nanobox, but had very good interaction with Dave, he has been helpful and answering various control related questions. Generally the nanobox thread in nano-reef is well supported, its unfortunate that there are folks who had difficult times. I do agree that folks in general NR are bit different, and not always family friendly
Well primarily the tank will be LPS with a few sps at the top of the tank, so I think the a80 should workout good for that setup?

+2 on Tuna blue

A80 is 15 watts, so its around 2 watts per G for your tank. Thats probably good enough for softies and some LPS. I doubt any sps (may be montipora) will work out under a80. Some of the LPS also will require more light. Softies should be alright, you'll have long elongated polyps.. this is assuming you are running the a80 at full strength.

Neither of those options, i recently had the same dilemma myself for my 6 UK gallon mixed reef ..weighing it all up i went AI Prime HD...very pleased with it

I have two a80 tuna blues with the Kessil controller. Easy to program. Nice shimmer. The a80s are compact . The gooseneck allows for a wide range of mounting heights!
