Since my tank is in my living room
The intense lights are a bit overwhelming to my adult kids
Complaining “ lights bothering their eyes”
Any ideas ? Easy fixes ?

Would this work for ya?

Tell your adult kids to move out? (lol, I kid)
Ah you beat me to it.
Canopy maybe? Or lower the lights and turn down intensity to reduce spill

Lamp shade would be the first thing I would try.

On a side note. If these are adult kids staying at home to finish school or save money to get on their feet, I’d personally tell them to get over it. Your house your rules.

If there are other circumstances going on, such as a special needs adult child, lamp shade will do the trick.

The 3D printed “shades” are nice. I modeled a prototype that accounts for the tank dimensions and the angle of the light from the 360w, makes a big difference.
any chance you could send a pic

I built a canopy for my 5 kessils and two led strips. Don't even get me started about adult kids living at home. ;Facepalm

I would be diplomatic about it and describe to your kids how cost effective (for them) it would be if they just put up with the lights. They'ld be saving rent, utilities and the cost(s) of moving.

In all seriousness, I'ld look for "barn doors" for your lights. It's the type they use for theatrical/stage lighting. Kessils own front office has them on their display tank, but from what I read their engineers found them at a lighting company in Cal. You can see in attached pic.

I seen not that long ago some was selling the 3D printed ones that attach to the kessils them self’s and make a cone which directs more light down on the tank instead of washing out everywhere else

I had the same problem. My wife hated that she had to squint when looking at my tank with AI Hydras from the couch. This is not an easy fix, but switching to the ReeFi lights from AI Hydras for my living room tank was the answer for me. The ReeFis have a trademarked individual parabolic reflector design for each led that completely eliminates side glare. Yes, you can sit in your couch and stare directly at the lights without squinting. Here's a picture from @SuncrestReef build thread that shows the difference between the ReeFi with the Reeflector individual reflectors and his Radion with a diffuser.

Also those lights are about 10x the size of a normal kessil. They were custom built.

I threw out the prototype cleaning before Christmas as I lowered the light and need to update the measurements. Attached are pictures of the model in fusion 360. Angle front and rear lines up to 1” below the rim, same for the outside, inside is 70 degrees (spec for kessil 360w) . I’ll print a set once I update the angles.
