12 to 14 inches should be good for mounting height :)

Hi...
I depends on what else you want to grow....
I had a ap700 over my 4 ft tank....16 inches high....at 100% the par reading was terrible at the bottom....the spread wouldn't even cover the tank. We had it as high as the arms would allow. I sold it after a few months and bout two EchoTech XR15s and love them!

Zoa dominated tank like 95%

Do you plan on adding anything else? If so you may need a second AP700, if not than you should be fine.
No I am a zoa nut , I have only one acro and one LPs coral and a nem but only 12 inch deep tank this light should light anything I want to be honest from what I read

Yea it should for what you are putting in there. See if you can raise it up as high as it will allow so the spread will cover most of your 4 feet. I thought with having a 16 inch deep tank it would have been enough. But for me I needed more light and one to cover all 4 feet.....that's why I went with the EchoTech XR15s.

You should be perfect for zoas. I have 2 over my 48x24x24 tank at 7 inches from water line. It’s currently at 90% but this tank is sps only really. The problem with people telling you to put it higher is because they are used to radions. Those suckers have a huge amount of par focused downward so you need to keep them high. The kessil ap700 on the other hand has such an awesome spread that you can lower the light and still have great spread of par. I started my lights at 14-15 inches but I noticed not enough par for my sps. I since dropped it and growth took off again. You will not regret this light for zoas. I bought an apogee mq510 and tested the par and they are so even side to side and a little less front to back but still very good. Brs also demonstrates this on there ap700 review.

Just be careful with your intensity settings.

I've had some zoas absolutely thrive underneath it (e.g. Super Saiyans) and some close up or outright disintegrate (Speckled Krak!). I would start with a very low intensity and wait for the zoas to beg for more light (i.e. they will elongate as if they're stretching toward the light). This will let you know you can dial up the intensity a bit.

You won't kill zoas with too little light (they are resilient), but you can fry them with too much light.

Hope this helps...
