Hey everyone just curious if anyone happens to know if an ap700 will actually slowly dim down and up to simulate sunrise and sunset effects? I have a orbit marine ic that simulates sunrise sunset that does a better job and actually looks better than an ap700....Can someone tell me how one would program the sunrise sunset effect for an ap700 bc now it dims down and than just clicks off instead of slowly doing it and slowly clicking off

All you need to do is set the program to lower in intensity till you are at 0% and vice versa for ramping up. Are you running ap700 now?

Yes im running it now and thats what i have it set at. But last night when it gets to 0 , it just suddenly shuts off instead of dimming down to off....my orbit marine ic dims down and dims off inatead of just shutting off so quickly....thought for $800 this light would do alot more

Personally, I own an AP700 and love it. I'm not so much concerned with the sunrise and sunset features as I am with how the corals look during the day and when i'm observing the tank and how well it grows corals. While the AP700 does have a moonlight feature, the unit (like the A360's and A160's) Wont dim down past 10-13% intensity (even though the app says you're at 1%). I believe kessil did this because when you start dimming down really low the leds are actually flickering extremely fast (faster than the eye can see) to dim down to such low levels, its called PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) PWM causes the LED to flicker on and off at a rate undetectable to the human eye; the flickers are then staggered depending on the desired amount of light output, and it can shorten the LED's life. Again just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt ;)

Gotcha! Really cool info! Did not know that!! I really like my kessil and it really makes my corals happy and I do like that a whole lot! Especially since all I have ran on them were t5 bulbs!, I really thought I may have a hard time with the corals in switching to led but so far it has been great! Even the little bit of brown spots on the sand have disappeared! I dunno if that's bc of the light but cool if it is! How do you program your kessil as far as how it turns off at night sunset, and morning(sunrise) you don't happen to have videos of yours at sunset and sunrise do you by chance?

I can take a video and post it after supper

I forgot to mention the shut off at around 13% or whatever it is haha. Sorry! I use the dimming feature and actually like it. I have not really used the moonlight feature for ap700 all that much as I still feel it’s too bright. But mine ramp up and down for about an hour each.

Can you explain more about this shutoff at 13%?
Its in regards to the PWM I mentioned earlier. Kessil made it so their leds can only dim so much before they turn off. Supposedly it helps prolong the life of the led..not sure how much truth there is behind that.

Can you send the videos to my email?

I'll post it here so others can observe as well. Better to share the information :)
So here are the lights when they first come in. This is at deep ocean blue at 1% intensity according to the slider bar but it's more close to around 13% actually

The next is ocean blue 1 at 15% intensity, on the camera doesnt look like much of a difference

This is my 8 hour daytime setting. Ocean blue 4 at 30% power

Then it's back to ocean blue 1 at 15%

Then off lol

Here's a video of a timelapse, it ramps up over only an hour so it goes pretty quickly

Thanks for the pics and video man, really appreciate that....I understand how it all works just wanted to make sure my kessil wasnt acting strange! Really really appreciate taking the time yo do that for me, even the one picture titled "than off" haha
