I picked up a new fuge light. Hopefully to crank out some cheato. But I'm not sure which setting to put it at.
Bloom or grow? I have it on bloom now, which is more red colored.
Thoughts?

Tanks,
Carl

You want to put it on the grow mode which is going to be more of a purplish pinkish color. reason being is chlorophyll A and B are absorbed best in a blue and a red spectrum, which the H380 is highly geared towards. Make sure you mount it far enough away or you'll fry your chaeto. 1 to 2 feet depended on the size of your fuge. And start out short and slowly extend your photo period.

Do you want the chaeto to grow or to bloom (hint: it doesn't bloom)? It is a very powerful light. I don't run mine off a controller, so it's at 100% and even 18" above it can bleach the chaeto.

It's about 18" above water.

Just bought this light myself.. how many hours a day should chaeto be lit with this kessil 380 light??
You can go 24 hours if you want, but most stay 16 hours max. Start at 12 hours, if you notice bleaching then reduce the hours, if you need more nutrients taken out and your chaeto is still dark green then you can increase an hour every week till you get it where you want it.

Started out at 10 hrs and wasnt growing much.. after 2 weeks im up to 13 hrs and my god the size doubled in a week. I also started dosing iron as well so i’m sure that probably helped as well. I also added another 9 anthias and 3 tangs to my 220 reef.
