I really like the Kessil shimmer so I'm thinking of getting a Kessil 360we but it seems like Radions are considered the best when comparing some of the popular LEDs like Radions, Kessils, Hydras, Maxspect, etc.

I read somewhere (don't remember exactly where) that the Radion's diffuser gives a Kessil-like shimmer and gets rid of the disco effect. Is this true?

In that case, I might just get a Radion since they come out to the same price considering Kessil needs a controller and there is more room for growth in terms of ability to keep more demanding corals if I want to try in the future.

All things considered, I think you're selling the Kessil's short in your comparison.

What size/dimensions is the tank you're lighting?

(BTW, what lights are your familiar with in person? Any favorites from your prior experience? Or....lights you've hated?)

@mcarroll I've just read that Radions typically are better for corals that may need more intensity (if that is the right term). I don't have a tank so this is all from reading. I'm either going with a 24 x 20 x 20 or a 36 x 20 x 20. I'm holding off on making a decision until I get some plans about my next place down.

I've seen the chinese blackbox, hydras, radions, kessils, and primes in person. Honestly, I like how Kessils look because of the shimmer but the disco ball effect doesn't really bother me. I've seen corals show their colors the most with a hydra though. However, this is all based on a single LFS and the specific settings they used for their lights.

I'd probably be okay with all of them but if they happen to be in the same price range (give or take a bit), I might as well go with the "best"

Bulk Reef Supply did a video comparing both of these Led brands in the new T5 hybrid fixture. You may want to check it out. I thought it was a nice comparison of the lights and they did touch on the shimer effect.
