I have a kessil h150 purple laying around and I was thinking about mounting it over my refugium to grow macro algae. Is this a good idea or bad?

If you already have it give it a try, I think you'll love it. I use one that I ended up with (long story - came with some other things I purchased) and it grows cheato like crazy.

Try it and see since you already have but most macro algae like something @ a lower frequency, 6500K .

Agreed @Salty1962. That's why I said since he already has it to give it a shot. I was using the old fashioned clamp on light with the 6,500 bulb, and it worked great. I accidentally broke the bulb, and I happen to have the Kessil. Stuck it on there and I was shocked. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone going out and buying the H150 but he already has it.

@pilot108, let us know how it works for you if you don't mind. I know this question has been asked before so it would be nice to have another record of your hopeful success.

I'm gonna mount it this weekend. Right now I have a cheap finnex clip light over it and the growth is pretty slow.
I will definitely take some before photos and check back in a week or two with an update.

I did use amazon sun and macro algae grows is crazy. Guess purple would be the same since they are plant light too

Well the purple kessil is working great. This is after about 2 weeks, macro all at least doubled in size.
Sorry didn't get a before photo.

Glad it's working for you too @pilot108. Get used to trimming the stuff....lol.

How is the refugium doing with the lights?
I had about a 20 hour photoperiod before, with the new lighting I noticed some whiting of the chaetto strands so I reduced the photoperiod to 12 hours , although my caulerpa was growing really fast , I did not want to have a chaetto die off .
