The lighting is great, I've been using them with great results. I love the lights and have switched to almost all kessil on my tank. I'm not sure where to post this so for now I put it here.

But I feel like those reefers looking for used or lightly used kessil need some help. And I almost feel bad not saying something about this. Having just spent a month looking for 5 more of them (and 4 before that) of them to replace some other lights.

If your spending more than $250 for a used a360 your out of your mind. And if your asking more than that your ripping people off. Maybe it's just my own opinion. But I just looked at a thread of someone selling (alledgedly 8 months of use) a360w kessil's for $320. And someone will buy those because the market for them is that crazy. Why do I think this is crazy? You can buy brand new open boxed kessil's for 300, and sealed box for 320 shipped. I'm not posting links, but they are around. You need to look. Stop being crazy. That is all.

A number of risks with buying used LED's versus a consumable bulb fixture, and as you've stated, there isn't much savings for the top fixtures. For something with no warranty, no real idea of use history nor record of proper maintenance and cleaning, any more than half of the value is too much for a general sale imo.

I'm meticulous with the cans and clean them once a month inside and out (cat hair), and they're plenty dirty even with four weeks of use. Dirty heat sinks leads to less heat dissipation, and heat is what prematurely kills LED's.

They're worth what somebody is willing to pay; if that is $300, $320, or $349
I'll add to this that 9 times out of 10 most people post with a higher price knowing that people are going to come in and low ball them. So in most instances they don't always get exactly what they're asking for.

This is 100% my point. One of the used ones I bought is so full of gunk I'm surprised it even turns on. Had to put it on a shelf to wait for more time to clean it.

I am not siding with the sellers here but, if someone is paying for it what's the problem? It's the same argument as the coral pricing these days. If it was up to me, coral farmer with these inflate prices would be have to look for another job.
Just let does kessil dust up.
A fool and his money are soon parted.;)

They're worth what somebody is willing to pay; if that is $300, $320, or $349, so be it. Why do you care what somebody else deems a fair value? Then finish off the comment with a statement of cheaper sources but withhold the links?

Agreed what someone's willing to pay... I don't care but like I said after a month of looking I'm aggravated. I feel better knowing someone who is looking will find this and keep looking. And not withholding links, items will sell and new links will come. A week from now links could be dead. Not the point.

Your right, but I tried to haggle a lot and got nowhere with the used kessil crowd, lol. Because they know someone will pay it. It just seems crazy. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade. Just stating my opinion.

This thread is exposing those wanting to sell their Kessil at inflated prices! ;)
Lol I'll never sell my kessil. I love them to much:D

I’m going to assume that you paid less than $300 for your used Kessil, otherwise you wouldn’t be “warning” others that $300 is overpriced. You also stated one of them is so gunked up it’s barely usable. I’m gonna draw the conclusion that the price you paid was based on the condition of the item, which in your words was not so great..

The same used versus new pricing difference is also common amongst other MAP enforced produces. AI Primes and Hydras, Ecotech Radions and Vortechs.. These don’t really go on sale, and so people are typically happy to get ANY kind of discount on them, even if it’s only $50.

Also, if there’s so many Kessils out there for a smokin’ price, why did it take you a month to find them and why are you so aggravated?

Ive drawn two conclusions from the op's post.

1- he is bored and had nothing else to post about

2- Kessils are excellent lights thus hold there value well

But now I feel like an idiot for reading the post and actually posting on it

It's a free market and prices reflect whatever it will bear. I treat reefing equipment like I do turbo Subaru's. You wouldn'y buy a used Subaru WRX STI from an 18 yr old dude would you?

That's why I usually buy reefing equipment new.
1. Warranty
2. It's all your wear and tear, not someone else's.

The way Kessil lights suck in dust bunnies I wouldn't buy them used as they need to be torn apart several times a year and blown out with compressed air. I recently had one of mine start flickering because I let it get too dirty.

The one I was talking about I got for 180 shipped so it was expected to have some use on it. Lots of dust build up but nothing some good cleaning won't take care of. The others I got for 250 a piece. Which seems to be the cheapest you can find a used one for, most of the time, IF you can find a used one. My aggravation comes in because it just doesn't make sense to pay more than that, and when I saw someone posting used ones for 320... C'mon man. I ended up breaking down and buying the last 2 that I needed, new for 300 each.

I guess it's just me that gets irritated seeing people charge the same for used items as what they cost new? Oh well. Forget I said anything then.

Nahhhh, I think people feel the same way but just realize that it’s what the market dictates and they either accept it and buy or they choose something else.

FWIW I paid $300 for mine with the gooseneck in very good condition, so I was happy with what amounted to a 14% discount and a free mount. I have seen them cheaper since then, but they get snapped up quick.

At least you can make a small profit if you decide to sell them!
