I purchased tyree key lime mango sherbet chalice. I had this coral years ago and has to replace it. It is a nice size frag but the color is more brown than green. I am sure this is a lighting issue. Is it that it was getting too much or too little. The eyes are still the nice melon color and it looks healthy. Just the base color is off.

Let us know a little more info:

Tank size
Lighting
Where you had it placed in the tank
Tank parameters (nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, ammonia, alkalinity, etc)

The more we know the better we can help out.

I just bought the chalice. And it's base color is off. So my tank is not the issue. But I have 4 t5 and 2 250 mh. I had this chalice before and it had the correct green color. I want to get the color right but need to make sure I place it correctly. If it was getting too little light it need to acclimate it. Or if too much I need to put in more shade area.

Hey tab any pictures of this chalice?? Also did you start it off on the sand...usually th best thing to do is start chalices low and work them up.

I've noticed too that mycedium-type chalices can tolerate higher light levels.

I've never seen a actual green one, but heres mine. And it came from WWC I believe. Either way its official. Ive always seen em having a purple to bluish body.

Mine looks alot like yours in color which makes sense since I picked it up yesterday from WWC. My first one was a few years ago and it had a greenish body. Not riddler green but a light greenish hue. I put it on a rack 3/4 from the top my tank is 24" deep and the the racks are on side glass so the angle of the MH is the direct. My other key lime may have come from Negret but it makes sense it was from WWC. They are just on the other side of town. My first keylime was in a smaller tank in depth and angle from lights. But it that one only had 3-4 eyes on it this new one has 15.

I did a search on pictures of it and all online were the green that I remember. Granted you can not tell by online pictures since most blast blue in them when taking the pictures. Maybe I will send WWC an email and ask. They had a large one in their display tank with the same green I remember. Their display tank is heavy on the blue. To me it was the contrast of green and melon is what sold me on it pictures do not capture the eye color very well. WWC had no more large colonies in the dispaly tank yesterday, lots of chalice frags maybe they fragged them all out. If the green is not the norm calling it keylime is kinda dumb.

EASTCOASTREEFER, the color on yours is incredible. Must be from all the extra light. Let me know if you ever want to trade something for a frag.

Its funny you say that cause I always wondered myself why they called it that. Mines never been any lighter than a blue color, but I also know that evry lighting source will turn corals different colors from the others. Mine started under a 3-1 blue to white ratio 4 bulb t5. The first pic up here was taken after I switched to halides. The 2nd pic is it under my new t5 fixture with 1 aqua blue Guiessman, 1 Fiji purple, and the rest Ati Blue plus'. I honestly don't know what to say about it. But I got mine from KLR and I think he gets most or all of his chalices from WWC

There is a picture of a green based one in this thread: https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/general-lps-discussion/22078-key-lime-mango-sherbert-chalice.html

Seems as though maybe once the frag gets bigger it may show more green?

That is more like the color I remember. Granted not as vivid, but pictures color generally is not the same in person. Even when you take the picture yourself. I think the digital pictures the colors are enchanced within the camera. Mine first one was that turquise green. I looked at mine this AM when only the T5's come on. The color was more like a ditry purple. When I first put it in the tank the MH were on and the T5's turn off so the color looked more brown. I will have to wait and adjust it to see if it will color up.

I hope more light to add to the green does not affect the pretty melon eyes. I know with my Pink *******, it gets better red pink color which contrasts the yellow eyes when in lower light. In higher light the pink is more like bubble gum color and the eyes lost the yellow, but it grew faster. LOL like a high shool kid as I type about that coral.
