Hi there,
So I'm having a thing going on here with my new tank.
My kh is dropping more than it should.
The tank is running for 10 weeks now and it has 3 small fish and a yellow tang in it atm.
I do awc of total 12. 8% per week witch is about 10.8% effectively.
So the first time I measured kh CA and mag the ca was very low at 350.
When I filled the tank with red sea pro salt I only measured the salinity so I don't know wath the ca was back than but I mixed some salt up from the same bucket and it was 450.
So I've added ca and Kh for the past 2 weeks and boosted the ca from 360 to 410 and the kh from 5.8 to 8.7.
But I had to dose 1 point kh per day and 10ppm ca to keep it at those values so after reading some forums I realised most part of the dose must be precipitating somehow.
During this period mag dropped from around 1450 to 1280 so that's a sighn of precipitation I guess.
So Monday I stopped dosing entirely and ca has dropped to 400-405 almost noting but kh has dropped from 8.7 to 6.5 in 4 days.
Monday I measured 8.7 tu 7.7 we 7.2 th 6.8 and vr 6.5.
So It seems to me that I should be dosing something.
Now I had the idea to switch over to kalkwasser instead of the red sea line at it is more simple and balanced.
But it is not made to raise kh and ca levels but only to sustain them.
So the question is: should I boost the kh to around 8 and the CA to 420 with the red sea kh and ca or with a large wc?
A 40% wc with red sea coral pro should boost the kh to about 8.5 and ca to 420.
It seems to me that the over dosing of ca and kh might caused an inbalance witch a wc would reduce.
Or should I just let the kh and ca drift off even when they get very low?
