Has anyone had any experience using the KH Director and controlling a calcium reactor or can someone point me to a thread where this has been done? I had an idea and have been trying to make this work but not having any luck. I have been using the director to dose two part and absolutely have no issues except the two part that I use and the amount that my tank uses daily has gotten fairly expensive. I still wanted to stay with my brand as I do really like it but wanted to use the calcium reactor to supply the base use daily while still using the KH director to dose a minimum dose of my two part and making the adjustments up or down as need, thereby greatly reducing the amount needed. I have just not been able to find the sweet spot and to fine tune the setup. If i change over to just using the KH Director to control the calcium reactor, will it maintain as tight of control on my dKH as I was use to seeing with my two part? Is anyone doing this?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

From what GHL has said in the past, in order to properly control a CA reactor you need to have both the KH Director and a Proflux controller.

I have both. i have the P4 and the KH Director. I was just looking for a good description of how to set the controls up and if it was able to keep it as stable as dosing. It seems on the surface that it would not be as accurate.

  1. Take your second pH probe, calibrate it to the CaRx range, and set the Nominal/Hysteresis in GHL. Mine is currently set at 6.7 and 0.1.
  2. Go to the switch channel that you plugged your CO2 solenoid. Under Function, select pH-value X for the probe you are using in the reactor along with Control Downwards.
  3. Go to your KHD settings and under control select your Nominal Value, under Control Mode "Calcium reactor mode"
  4. You'll then see additional options on screen. Select the correct pH probe again, Nominal Value Changes. Under Limits, I have 0.5pH to raise KH (this protects the reactor media) and 1pH to lower KH (turning off the reactor by pushing the reactor to over 7 pH)

From there, I recommend starting at 6-8 KH tests a day while you dial the reactor in.

See below from manual:

As of firmware 6.43 (ProfiLux 3) or firmware 7.20 (ProfiLux 4), the following socket outlet functions are available:

• KH-value control downwards (decrease): socket is switched on if the current KH-value is too high

KH-value control upwards (increase): socket is switched on if current KH-value is too low

Anyone using this feature? I also have leak detector hooked up to my dosing pump used for ca rx effluent. I am not a programmable logic guy but can some one show how I would use the PL functions for the dosing pump for a leak detection and KH control.
