KH Guardian: Automatic Alkalinity Controller- My Experiences

I'm also interested to see if by increasing the KH with just the KHG if it clears up the bump too, I only did a very minor adjustment, and removed a small amount from my overall dosing scheme during the dark period as I think I am very slowly creeping up in alkalinity. We'll see in the next couple days if I need to make another adjustment or if it corrects itself.

Loving my unit, continuous Alk monitoring and management feels like it could be a game changer for me!

I am interested in buying one but I do not want to blow $1,269 if it does not work for my system. I have a SPS reef and run a cal reactor.

I don't think the size of the system really matters. Your calcium reactor will take care of your systems alk/cal needs but the KHG will help you keep track of the alkalinity usage and offer a bump if needed to keep things more stable. Being able to glance at a screen or bringing up the chart for reference just makes life so much easier.

Following. I could use a more precise and dialed in way to monitor it myself. I want to see some history before buying though. Thanks for this post.

FYI I am dumping sent sample back into the tank right now.

I dont see the time zone setting working , I have 8 in the time zone box for CST but it seems to not adjust the time?

I had to enter a value of -5 on mine for it to record in the data log the correct time (EST). The screen on the unit always displays the system time given to it by the LAN. However when it makes the log entry it records the time based on the time zone entry, really frustrating to try and figure out what was wrong, it took me 30 mins or so to figure out what was going on. Try entering (-6) in the timezone section of the System settings. Then check how it records the next test in the log (it won't change the times of the previous recorded times). If -6 doesn't put you in the right time, then you need to make an adjustment to that number (either plus or minus) however many hours the recorded time is wrong.

CoralVue's video is wrong in their listing of timezone numbers. We are a negative number based off the International dateline.

So I still got a little + 0.1 dKH bump later this morning. So I removed some more from my nightly dosing schedule. It spent all night at 7.3 dKH and tested at 7.4 dKH last time (3 hours after the lights came on).

I also noticed that it's IP address changed during the night. Took me a minute to figure out why I couldn't logon to it. To solve this, I went into my router settings and set it up as a fixed IP address. This should solve the problem. I've also noticed that If I am not on my router's network (if I am on the cable modems wireless network) then I can't sign on. (This isn't a big deal, so if it happens to you don't freak out). It can be solved (correct me if I am wrong Network gurus) by setting up "port forwarding".

Oh I also decided last night that, it has made all the correct decisions, has given me no reason to distrust it and I hooked the dosing line directly to the sump. So the KHG is now in control of my reef.

Thank you for keeping us updated!

And Skynet advances on our reefs!
