My dkh s/b 6-8 by my chart. It's 12. :ooh: What do I do to lower it. My PH is 8.2, Phos. 0.5 ( I just put in Phos-Zorb hope it will lower Phos.) :squigglemouth: Nitrate way up to, I cut off a lot of Xiana from my rock, I think that is why Nitrates are up. Yes, I just did a water change too. What do I do next?:pout: I'm trying hard to get my water perfect for my tank change in 10 days. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you for your time

12 is the top of the standards, not the end of the world. Just do a water change

I just did a water change thinking that should help, but it didn't. Always reefin just suggested I test my salt mix. Now, that I haven't done. So, I'll test the salt mix, then do another water change. Thank you so much for all your help. It helps when you have someone elses info. and input.

I used to use Reef Crystals, and it mixed at 12. I now use Salinity, and run around 9.

Prob your salt mix get something closer to nsw.

1st thing Id do is check my calcium levels...if they're low, throw in some Ca Chloride, it will raise the CA and lower the Alk. simult....then, when there at appropriate levels, start using a good 2-part/Kalkwasser.

I would check your calcium AND magnesium. With the Alk that high I wouldn't be surprised to see your Ca and Mg low. Ca and Alk work in tandem to balance each other out. If your mg is low Alk and Ca have a hard time balancing.
Check your Mg and correct it if low. Then check Alk and Ca again and gently correct them. Before doing drastic changes I would check and correct your Mg.

What brand of salt are you using? Are you dosing or adding anything to the water?

Wait, you are going to do a tank change??? So does mean you are going to put your fish, coral, inverts, and LR into a different tank? You are going to upset the whole shooting match any way. AND do not use the sand, toss it and use new washed sand. Fill the new tank 1/4 full with new change water, then add about 1/3 to 1/4 old tank water. This seeds the new water and allows work space in the old tank and new tank to work. Then place most of your LR into the new tank and add the new sand. Then top off both tanks with change water. Let the new tank settle, then exchange some water back and forth between tanks, and work the tests results in both tanks to proper specs, including matched temperature. THEN move the fish, coral, inverts, etc. In other words you are going to be running two tanks for a short while.
