Hi guys
What’s considered a kh swing ?

If you do a water change and it goes from 10-9 , if you dose in a shot 9-10 ?

example of my tank , My kh mostly site at 8 and I’ll check it in a few days and it’ll be 7.3 so I drip buffer in over 6 hours back to 8 and up the dose in the ato , I’m still fine tuning it but for me this isn’t a kh swing??

I believe anything over a 1.2 or 1.4 difference in dkh in one day is max recommended. Anything over that can cause shock/harm.

I don’t get that much but I’m interested in when you say a day is that gradual over a 24hr period or a hit

I believe raise no more than a 1.4 increment slowly in a 24-48hr span. So like if you have an auto doser (I don’t so don’t take this part seriously) but I believe there’s a way to dose it to where you can raise it the 1.4dkh throughout the day or over two days. Or you can just qtr the dose like what I’ve done in past and just add it throughout the day manually.
Here’s a link kinda what I go by as well.

Well I have buffer in my ato which I’m figuring out the exact dose needed to maintain it

Many folks suggest keeping changes below 0.5 dKH.

However, there are different types of changes that may have different issues.

There’s no clear experiments giving data on this and different organisms may respond differently.

For example, a tank going from 7 to 8 dKH instantly every day may be fine while one going up 1 dKH several days in a row (7 then 8 then 9 then 10 dKH) may not be.
