Kick Ich

Always relied on copper or chloroquine for ich...what are the facts about Kick Ich...effective or junk?;Pompus
I've heard it both ways. Some say it works great. Others say useless.

Curious too, but...

Ain't Nothing Like Fallow Three Months

I had success with Cupramine for all fish except a baby yellow tang. Now I recommend 3 month QT for new fish, only medicate if symptoms.
Apparently Coppersafe is better with tangs... I don't have experience.

I QT everything new now.

They don’t appear to publish what’s in it which to me is the first red flag.

Researchers and the private sector (fish farms) have spent millions on finding a safer treatment as well as on vaccine research without much success.

It’s been on the market for 18yrs and the manufacturer claims its efficacy has been proven yet a search of scientific journals returns nothing.

Ultimately, your call but I wouldn’t risk it. Your fish’s immune system may suppress ich but I highly doubt this thing would eradicate it.

i used it once, seemed to help.... fish built up an immunity to the ich on its own but i think the kick ich helped by killing the free swimming ich.. which it says it will do...

i added a blue tang 3 days ago, and now i am seeing white spots on it... so i am trying it again..... we will see if it works...

the first time i used it, i increased feedings, and dosed as directed.... fish got better in 4 days.....

i will do the same this time and report back

catching the tangs in large reef tank is difficult so the kick ich would make a huge difference and be helpful. After 4 weeks of doing the transfer method and then a week of prazi pro I thought I was good to go with my two tangs (yellow and blue hippo) and alas, no I have ich in the DT. I am trying Kick Ich and following some directions on other forums... Use for the extended time (3 weeks +) to kill the free swimming ich over and over again until gone... If anyone else has done the longer dosing please let me know if it worked... If not I may have to tear down a really great tank just for these two (of 14) fish... to get them out...

If you have ich in your DT all 14 fish would need copper in QT and your DT run fallow for 76 days to eradicate once and for all.

There is no compelling evidence that it does anything useful. It is really up to the manufacturer to provide evidence of it working, and the haven't.
