Hi there,

Just trying to get your thoughts.

There’s a mystery happening in my tank. I had this happened recently;
- my goby jumped out ( It happened when we left the lid open during water change) but strange coz he seems to be calm fish and always calm and used to water changes
- replaced goby and after 3 days the goby died
- then 2 days later my blue damsel died, found him dead in the morning, he was very active when I fed him the night before
- replaced goby and after 2-3 days goby found dead
- now my anthias fins have some damage, same with my cardinal who’s tail is also damaged. Cardinal fish is very calm fish but moved to a very low still position which is not norm.

We showed the picture of our fish to our LFS supervisor and he suspected that there is one fish who is trying to dominate / kill the other fish. We thought some bacterial infection and we went there to get a medicine. Apparently if it’s a bacterial infection the damage must be even. But the damage on the fins and tails are not even.

Now we are trying to solve the puzzle. We are guessing it’s the 4 stripe damsel as he looks so lethargic and in just one side of the tank. He probably had a big fight with the anthias last night. Anthias is the oldest fish in the tank and we named him the king of the tank. As he can give designated territory to the new fish in the tank but after a while will get along with the fish.

We will try to isolate the 4 stripe damsel tonight and see what will be the outcome the next morning. And we will bring it back to our LFS.

All my readings are good. All other fish seem to be ok.

What do you think? Thanks in advance.

What size tank?

Have you seen any aggression? Chasing, nipping?

55 gal tank. 4 stripe damsel is one of the last addition before it all happened.

Thank you.

Also the 4 stripe damsel had been chasing the cardinal the last 2 days but cardinal will get help with the clown fish or anthias who can push the damsel away from him (cardinal).

I had a 4-stripe once. Meanest fish I ever saw (with the possible exception of Bluegill).

Three stripe, four stripe, Domino's, blue devil's....... aggressive.

Thank you all. 4 fish died overnight. It is sad. My 2 old fish who were buddy from the start (clownfish & anthias), cardinal who is just very calm and the 4 stripe damsel. I am hoping it won’t happen to some other fish that survive. I am observing it and medicating my tank...
