I see stories about killer pistol shrimp from time to time. I thought these things were basically blind I'm just not sure how they could hunt and catch a healthy fish. I've had a tiger pistol with a pink spot watchman goby for a few years and never a problem besides my sand bed moving from one side of the tank to the other from time to time.

Am I way off here?

I have heard the same thing in the past but never have experienced any pistol killing a fish in a system. I have seen them kill other shrimp but that may be more of a territory or survival of the shrimps issue more than anything.

It will be interesting to see if anyone else has seen them actually kill fish in their system.

Yeah there's rumors and accusations about these blind assassins, but I just don't think somethiing that needs another fish to be its eyes could be this deadly. I hope to hear other's thoughts on the subject, because your honor I think they are innocent.

Also following along because I want to add a pistol shrimp, goby pair to my Red Sea max nano, but don't want it killing my cleaner shrimp.

Agree! I don’t think the pistol shrimp are the culprits. I have seen folks say “I think the shrimp” are killing fish - but haven’t seen any eye witnesses... my shrimp would never kill anything, it’s a sweetie, I can tell.
