Killing stuff with lasers

Like I said I'd like to get one for $90 to $120 and know I'm getting something at least 2 to 3w and not receive a 5mw laser. That may not be possible at this time without spending double to tripple that. How do you prove what you're buying is ligit? With all the wild claims coming out of China there doesn't seems to be a way.

As Kecked stated 10 and 30w diodes don't exist, at least not for retail, if there are any for commercial they are probably over $1000 just for the diode, not a finished product no matter what these Chinese sellers claim. If a diode is over driven that much It will fry out pretty quick.

@specialk I'm real interested into what you find out about building your own. I might be able to convert an old vaping mod into a laser that uses one or two 18650 batteries. The biggest issue is figuring out how to add a lens for focusing.

Well stay tuned as I am going to be the test dummy for this. The company SWEARS to me that this is going to be a strong laser that will last. My hopes are up, as I accidentally submitted 2 payments, 1 using my credit card and another using paypal (I thought the one way on their site it did not go thru, when it actuality it did) and they refunded my money via paypal. So at least they are honest and if it was a scam, they could have taken me for 2 payments! So I am thinking it is not, and I also got a tracking number.

My only concern is the strength ... and the good news with these, is if they do not burn things (as their video states and clearly shows that they sent me and that I found) then I know it is garbage. As long as it burns things, I am going to be happy.

So if this works ..I will know of a good place to get them (along with fast shipping and service as they have been emailing me everyday and answering all my questions)

Making one would be cool though ... (already have my back up plan working and have a 6 watt diode and driver in a shopping cart just in case...lol)

Yea, but they sold you on 10w and then told you after the fact that it's 5w. Glad they didn't keep your 2nd payment though.

What level of wattage does it take to burn things and at what distance does the power drop off at different wattages? That's what I'd like to know. I hope you don't get a 5mw that's over driven.

Do you have a link for your "backup cart"? [emoji6]

In @melev video he had a below 2 watt, and was able to zap majanos from around 12 inches away (Unless I am thinking of a different video .. none the less, it worked from 12 inches out)

And yah if it is over driven and breaks on me .. they said I can return it for refund and new one. As I said, as long as it burns things, I am going to use it as they should be used, with short burst and adequate rest in between) .... but the great thing is ... if it does not burn things .. its garbage and lesson learned. (and I mean burn things relatively quick... not waiting for 30 seconds...lol)

That was one of the things I read on each linked laser in this thread: The total run time recommended. Most said around 3 minutes, one said up to 8 minutes straight which we would never do. If it's stronger than my 1.2w laser, I'll be happy. 5w sounds great to me, but if it is only 3w (3000mw) I'm still pleased honestly. The question for me is battery time as well as being able to focus the tip to needlepoint accuracy so I can burn them away.

Yup ... I have been echoing the same words. Ill take 3W, 5 would be better. any of those 2, and as long as I can run it a decent amount of time -- Im one happy reefer.

I'm not going to know anything until mine arrives, but I can tell you my original one did the job. I just wanted something more powerful because my tank is pretty big. Unless they are right near the front glass, it was tough to target quite a few. Mine is old, and while I'm sure it will still do the job I really wanted one at a higher wattage to fry them more quickly. The batteries on mine didn't last more than 20-3o seconds, after that I just had a blue laser light but didn't hear the sizzle. So I had a bunch of batteries, and would have to rotate through them all. This is the primary reason it didn't get used very much; I kinda hope this new one will be wicked. ;) It'll be a few weeks until it arrives though.
You can use a power supply and then no batteries. If the unit gets warm it has inadequate heat sink. The reason your unit stops killing is as it gets warm the power goes down. It’s not adequately heat sinked.
If it is battery powered you could put it in a plastic bag and put it in the water. The water should help cool it if you suck the air out of the bag.

Any of you ever order from wish.com? I have had good luck with Chinese products on there. I found this among other laser options for sale. It is advertised as $36 for 5000 mW with an exterior focusing bit.

Awesome info. Put the batteries in a plasctic bag or put the entire laser in there?

This looks to be the same laser that is advertised all over ebay and all over the net. Not saying it will or wont be good ... Juts looks like the same product, just on a different site.

This one on wish.com claims to be 10,000 mw and is super cheap at $12. I wonder if you were to give it a shot what type of glasses would protect your eyes since it doesn't come with any of its own.

Yah I mean if that is legit .. great!!! I am just skepptical based on all the research I have done, laser company owners Ihave talked to, and bad stories about bad stuff coming from China. (But again, I DO NOT want to deter anyone from going their own route and trying it. I hope it works) ... if the one I am getting today is not up to par, I am building my own.
