I never really made a build thread due to the fact my tank was set up before I found this forum but I'm combining my 29g and 10g tanks in a 40g so I guess this will be mine. First task at hand, get rocks and fish out of this tank so I can work

Got all rocks and fish out of the tank, just finishing up moving equipment and water

Tank is scaped and all the fish and coral are back in. Now I'm getting all the equipment hooked back up. I'll need to go get more water tomorrow to fill all the way up (sadly I can't make my own water at the moment). Other than that just eating for the water to clear up

Love the new scape! Those clowns are going to like all the extra space too :) Any other stocking plans for the upgrade?

I have lots of other fish in, it was just really cloudy. My current stock is 2 black misbar ocellaris, 2 watchman goby , 1 firefish, 1 engineer goby, 1 coral beauty, 1 lawnmower blenny. I know might sound overstocked but I've made it work and all my parameters are good and stable

Looks good! And, I don't think it's overstocked, sounds about right to me. As long as your nitrates are in check, no worries. Nice job :)

I like what you have done with the new tank. It looks nice. Did you add any biospira or bacteria additives to help reduce a mini cycle? I have done 3 tank transfers and I always got a bit of an ammonia spike about 5 days after and it would last maybe a week until the tank settled.

No but I added about 14 pounds more of live rock i had cycling for the bigger tank. Next time I'll probably just do that though, sounds a lot easier

Haha thanks. I've had a couple people argue me down about it

It all depends what your goals are. My personal experience right now I have a 30g tank with 5 fish and feed HEAVY, I am keeping mostly LPS and softies which like a higher nutrient environment. For the life of me I can't keep my nitrates above zero. I have to manually dose potassium nitrate to keep my levels elevated.

So as long as you're not keeping a sps heavy low nutrient tank, have as many fish as you want as long as you can keep your nutrients where you want them.

Ok, I'm thinking about getting a few hardy sps but the only thing I have above zero is nitrates and that's barely. I feed every other day and try to spot feed

You should be fine then! I also am upgrading to a 40G here as my 30G is starting to bow a little bit. With my fitration working as well as it does in addition to my 5 fish already I am going to add 3 green chromis and hopefully a Starry Blenny if I can find one around here.

Sounds great, if you do a thread let me know, I'd love to check it out. Wish you were local cause there are a ton of them here and they're only like 20 bucks
