So I have a 75 gallon tank with a sump in my bedroom but i also smoke cigarettes in my bedroom throughout the day and i was wondering if that could negatively affect my fish
I truly care about the little fellas and dont want to harm them based off ignorance

I don't worry about ash or anything every getting there its closed throughout the day and i smoke on the other end ofthe room

Anything in the air has the potential to make it into your tank. This is why aerosol sprays and scented candles are not allowed in my home. No idea the effects of smoking though. But with what they put in cigarettes these days I cant imagine itd be good. Just my 2 cents :)

thanks I assumed it would be something along those lines I'm just gonna make sure i smoke outside from now on or keep my cigarettes out the windows and well ventilated
I'd feel so awful if my bad habit got them hurt

Hello,

Well I have never smoked anything in my life except a turkey and a goose. But I have burned to a crisp some frozen pizzas and other foods. Do to the smoke coming just from burning food affects my tank.

But in theory and I’m way too tired to do the math or bother looking it up, but it would decrease the oxygen in the water and aka pollute the water. As much as I’d like to convince you to stop as well (to each their own), it’s probably wise to smoke outside. Some have mentioned like air freshener sprays etc they will affect your tank as well. With that said ahh I was one of the dumb ones who did actually sprayed air freshener, then realized my mistake ten seconds too late. It affects fish and coral very fast and you won’t havw time to react.

ah okay thank you! im definitely working on quitting thank you for the concern <3 :)

Opening a window should help. Additionally , anything atmospheric is a risk to an aquarium .
With the amount of light film grease that was on my Keurig this past Saturday, I’ll never understand why one would pick a kitchen as an ideal location for an aquarium.

thanks i only smoke like ~3 cigarettes a day so opening all my bedroom windows should help vent it out

Just my 2cents cigarettes are known to contain 6400 chemicals. If your smoking in the same room as the tank even with the windows open some of those are making it into your tank from the gas exchange that’s going on as the surface tension of your water is being broken by water flow. It would benefit your fish if you smoked outside.

thankfully my cigarettes are pure tobacco and water not that it makes it much better just less chemical strain i suppose
