Chalices usually like to be placed mid to bottom level in a tank with high lighting, I would think the spot you pointed out in the picture is a pretty good starting point but be prepared to move it if it stays sort of shriveled up longer than a week.

I have mine underneath an overhang about mid-way in my tank and its grown about an inch out. One of my favorites

Wow, about an inch. How long did that take? You don't mind sending me a picture of it do you?

i have the same peice too i say a bit lower then mid point with t5s

Mine is on the bottom of my tank 20" directly under my 360w and is doing great, almost doubled in 6 months

I have had this chalice for about 5 years and have fragged it many times. Great coral... mine sits on the sand bed and grows like a weed. Great growth and color is nicely promoted by feeding.

Its been about 3 months. It was my first chalice and the only one that has actually grown so far. It looked almost like fibers hanging off then the chalice would color over where it was building out if that makes sense. I can take a picture here in a couple hours when i get home. It was the slice of pinky nail when I first got it

I appreciate the replies. I might lower it a tad bit then and target feed it.

I am no Pro ,, buts its all about Par ,, I always felt you wanted to have Chalices low & doing good there ,,, that way as you move up the tank , scape ,, Par increases and you can place higher Par liking corals ,, till you get to the top where you can place SPS corals,,, if you have Chalices in the middle of the tank and doing good there ,,, they lake a lots less Par ,, so you will have ,, really low Par at the bottom of the tank,,

That's good to hear. I really like this piece and hope it does well. If you get a chance, I wouldn't mind seeing pictures of it.

I need to invest in a par tester but don't want to spend the money. Lol

Your just guessing without a Par meter & that can cost you corals :( I bet someone in your reefing community has one ,, seek them out :) make a new friend :)

True, I will have to invest in one soon. Good advice. I move in a couple of months so I might look when I move. Lol

That's a really nice chalice man. She's a keeper if she's surprising you with coral.
