I like to follow the KISS method as much as possible. How about anyone else. What's the simplest tank setup you have?

My 10 gallon nano is about as simple as it gets. I have live rock and sand. 2 power heads a heater and a small hob power filter for running floss and carbon. I don't even have timers for my lights (a quad t5ho). I don't dose anything and do weekly 25% water changes. About as simple as it gets. I may add a sump and skimmer soon but thats about it. I like the KISS method.

That's how I have my 10 gallon frag tank setup. And my 55 is similar however I do have a rkl for the lights and temp control and a tunze 9004 skimmer.

To me, KISS = Berlin system.

Big skimmer, AC, and some form of phosphate control (GFO, Lanthanum Chloride reactor, algae turf scrubber, refugium, etc.).

Here's a filterless, sumpless, skimmerless system I've been maintaining for over 5 years. Circulation is two Korallia 2s and two Hagen Aquaclear 70 power heads. Lighting is two 250 watt HQI 12000K MH. Gets a 1/4 cup of Caribsea's aragamight with 20 gallon water changes every 10 - 15 days.

Well, my QT system is relatively a follower of the KISS method. My display on the other hand is the complete opposite =P

my 120 gal. Is about as simple as can be. no sump, a reef octopus hob skimmer, two powerheads, and two 120w dimmable led units. 15% wc every week. changing from a fowlr to a softie tank.

No skimmer, no charcoal, no sump, no dosing pumps. Sponge, water changes, 2 korailla, MH 150w Phoenix.

Thanks for sharing. Those are impressive corals. I have a few questions. How long have you had the tank setup? What size tank and what kind of bioload do you have?

Actually I just recently took the tank down in preparation to move.
The tank ran from 2007 to Feb 2014.
One clown, one goby, no hermits, 4 snails.
28 gallon JBJ.

KISS is not the best practice for a newer hobbyist and a nano. You really have to learn balance and chemistry.
I do love bells and whistles, next tank will have an ATO, Skimmer and Sump.

Gotta love the hobby, so many ways to achieve the same goal.

nano / aio type tanks are built with simplicity in mind. expand on the conecept as you see fit. religious water changes are key to a simplistic setup ime.

I do utilize a skimmer, RKL (heater and skimmer control), and ATO but I would still categorize my approach as fairly simplistic, as least when you consider all the gizmos and gadgets available.

My 20H only has an Aquaclear 70, an old Koralia powerhead, a heater, and lit by T5s. I've had it running for a year and 3 months with weekly 5g water changes. If something isn't growing well in one of my other tanks, I put it in this one and they almost always bounce back.

thats a great looking tank love the colors.

5 gallon mushroom tank. sand live rock, mushrooms, 2 sexy shrimp, green chromis, 2 pico pumps, empty canister filter with with a bag of chemipure. Monthly water changes. Very simple.
