Kitchen Base cabinets for a stand?

Thx for the comments peeps.

I thought about using the upper cabinets to match, but it would have been difficult to mount them on the tank and They were not quite deep enough. So, I built a little canopy for the t5's and am painting it right now.

THAT my friend is the way to think outside the tank...Taht just solved 90% of my delema for putting my tank in my kitchen. Two base cabinets...Duh!!

Well, it held up just fine. I got the lighting done, except for the front cover of the canopy. It is filled with tap water to test out the plumbing.
The beananimal overflow system is awesome! Dead quiet and no air bubbles at all. NO LEAKS EITHER:bigsmile:
here are some more shots.

fickle----he gets jealous of the fish....lol

Paul....the little pump with the green hose pumps water to the skimmer sump on the right hand side. I had to make two sumps to fit under the cabinets cause my skimmer is sooooo big....lol. It is about the same as a recirc skimmer doing it with a feed pump ....at least it works in my mind, anyway.

I set up a 36 x 24 x 12 coral tank on a sink base a while back and the only issue I had was after about 3 months the moisture from the sump started to eat the flimsy furniture board up. If you use an all plywood construction cabinet you'll be fine, but from the looks of the pic your cabinet has the same furniture board mine had on the interior. That material is very easy to damage with high moisture.

Hope you don't have the same issues I did, but you may want to apply a coat of poly or something on the interior of the cabinets to help keep the water from soaking in.

Yes, you are correct. The cabinets were building up alot of moistue on the insides. I cut two 4" holes is the back of each one, and installed some blue led computer fans(one in and one blowing out ) on each cabinet. They were like $13 shipped for all four from newegg, and I used a cell phone charger as a power supply. Works great, no more moisture and the blue leds are nice at night in the cabinets....lol

a few polyurethane coats on the inside of the stand should help block the moisture from entering the stand. i would shut the sump off while applying and use a water-based application (low toxicity)
