I am wanting to move some over grown softies in SPS tank to a "kitchen sink" type tank. Ill take photos but it is old scroll live rock and hairy mushrooms. Trying to do something unique and simple and not be a complete me too type set up. I am advanced SPS keeper with zero practical experence with mini tanks, so any helpful input appreciated!!

I wanted to use the following equipment and asking for suggestions without spending much on it.

Tank: 15 gallon Rimless UNS Cube usually for planted tanks
Lighting: Chihiros Mini Light (RGB Channels Diffused white panel)
Filtration: Eheim Canister 4+ Pro filled with Seachem pumice stone
Circulation: Ecotech MP10
Top Off: Tunze ATO

Live stock: Fiji Scroll Live rock 5+ years Old, Bubble Mushrooms (neon), Harry Mushrooms, Black ORA breeding Clowns overfed
Substrate. Possible juvenile convict to move to large tank in future.

Looking for worthwhile airstone skimmer, or should I just do 25% weekly water changes with SPS tank water livestock is currently in. Filtration is about 10 to 15 lbs of pumice stone.

Is something like this not actually worth the hassle?

Well you are doing softies in this tank and personally I think some of your equipment is kind of overkill.

I would just do a small wavemaker and not the mp10. I run a 10 gallon lps tank and I dont even use a wavemaker cause the filter provides enough flow. and if you place the in and return to the canister filter in a correct manner you probably will have enough flow.

Also a protein skimmer isnt really required for a tank of this size especially if it is softies and you are not putting in a lot of fish. I do a 20% water change either weekly or biweekly and the nutrients in the tank are stable and at the right point. And since you are doing softies you dont really need to worry about calcium, alkalinity, etc. Biggest thing is to not let you nitrates go wild.

Thanks for info. I have all equipment except mp10, so will use it. I kinda wanted a DC power head of some sort so will see how it goes. Eheim is 5 foot down on floor so I could raise it up some for more flow.

Oddly the planted tank was more up keep than a SW tank or I enjoyed it less. It grew too fast and CO2 regulator I need for CA reactor as old one broke.

I really just need a power head and some new sand to give it a try. I might use a cheap Eheim surface skimmer to eliminate surface film without an airstone.

I ended going bit high end for this for project. I got two new parts. Eheim filter filled with pumice has been up 6 months for holding Barbed Flag Fish. I am putting the lava rock, sand and rubble in this tank next to create biofilms.

Ill do a simple tank build at once with pictures sort of like the instant satisfaction Instagram pictures for transfered stock.
